Coronation Street fans admit 'hate to say' as they notice 'new Gary Windass'

Coronation Street fans have confessed a change of heart towards a relatively new character on the show, dubbing him the "new Gary Windass" much to their own surprise. The ITV soap's followers are well aware of David Platt's numerous secrets, with one of the most significant being his theft of Harvey Gaskell's money.

This cash was initially offered by Damon Hay, David's brother, to Sarah Platt, David's ex-girlfriend, when her daughter Bethany required assistance after a disastrous cosmetic surgery procedure in Turkey. In last week's episodes, David was irate, not only having to celebrate his birthday on Christmas and his mother Gail Platt's sixth wedding day to Jesse Chadwick, but also feeling abandoned by his mother's plans to leave Weatherfield.

However, his attention was diverted when Harry, Sarah's son and David's nephew, appeared from his bedroom holding a bunch of £20 notes he'd discovered in the wardrobe - the money David had stolen from Harvey.

Jesse quickly explained that David was saving for Shona's Christmas present, but later persuaded David to agree to a deal to offload the cash without jeopardising the funds needed to purchase the house. The two then met in the shadowy garden of No.8 o exchange the money, reports the Manchester Evening News

However, on Wednesday night's episode of Corrie (December 18), Matty and Logan Radcliffe began to stir up trouble for David, accusing him of stealing the money. Despite his denials and attempts to dismiss the troublesome duo, he found them in a closed salon with his grandmother Audrey Roberts.

Swiftly escorting them out, he confessed that he had already used the money for a house deposit. Yet, Matty and Logan threatened harm to Audrey if they didn't receive their money back.

David attempted to retrieve the money from the house deposit but was unsuccessful, leading him to devise a new strategy. While out collecting wedding rings for Gail and Jesse, David met with Matty and Logan, proposing to repay them in instalments, beginning with the rings. He then enlisted their help to stage a robbery. Upon returning home with a bruised face, Jesse and Shona were shocked.

David claimed he was attacked by four lads on e-bikes and had reported the incident to the police. However, Shona quickly saw through his deception. When confronted, David admitted the truth. Shona then sought out DC Kit Green at the pub, requesting his off-the-record assistance with Matty and Logan.

She leveraged her knowledge of his cover-up regarding Daisy Midgeley's involvement in the accident that broke her arm to secure his cooperation. Kit's aggressive confrontation with Matty, warning him to steer clear of David and the Platts, has caused Coronation Street fans to dramatically change their opinion of him. Initially, viewers were not too keen on Kit, but a recent episode has seen a shift in sentiment.

One docial media user said: "Kit might be the next Gary windass, I hope he gets what's coming to him soon though." Meanwhile, another praised the character, saying: "Kit is actually one of the best additions to the show this year."

The sentiment was echoed by someone else who enthused: "Kit is absolutely brilliant I'm so invested." Another viewer admitted: "This actually made me like Kit" with another confessing: "I hate to say this but I'm beginning to quite like Kit."

Coronation Street is on ITV at 8pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday and available to stream from 7am on ITVX
