It's been nearly a decade since the last series of Downton Abbey graced our screens. The historical drama, set between 1912 and 1926, chronicled the lives of the Crawley family and their staff in the fictional Yorkshire estate of Downton Abbey.

The ITV programme was a massive success, running for six series in total. Such was its popularity that it spawned two film adaptations, Downton Abbey in 2019 and Downton Abbey: A New Era in 2022, with a third untitled film slated for release in 2025.

Despite no new episodes being produced for over ten years, fans can still enjoy reruns on streaming platforms ITVX and Netflix. The show boasted a star-studded cast including Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley and Maggie Smith as Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham.

Essex-born actress Michelle Dockery starred as Lady Mary Crawley throughout all six series and both films, and is set to return for the upcoming third film. Initially portrayed as a cold and ill-tempered character, Lady Mary Crawley evolved to show more vulnerability and kindness as the series progressed.

She endured many dramatic events, including the tragic loss of her husband Matthew following the birth of their son, before eventually marrying racing driver Henry, reports Liverpool Echo.
