New Disney series Skeleton Crew's place on Star Wars timeline explained
The newest addition to the Star Wars saga finds itself in a fascinating position within the franchise's timeline. The anticipation is already building among fans about the setting for the new series and its implications.
Eight-part show Skeleton Crew will finally start streaming on Disney+ from December 3.
Despite the two-episode premiere being moved up, fans will still have a brief wait to binge-watch the entire series. This is due to the remaining episodes being released weekly throughout Christmas and into the New Year.
Nevertheless, the showrunners have already given some hints about what fans can anticipate. So, where does Skeleton Crew fit into the Star Wars timeline?
What does this imply for the universe's condition and potential characters that might appear? Here's everything you need to know.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew follows the journey of four children who stumble upon a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, only to find themselves lost in an unfamiliar and perilous galaxy. To return home, they'll have to encounter new allies and adversaries on a grander adventure than they could have ever envisaged.
The series is set a few years after the final instalment of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi, during the period known as the New Republic era, reports the Daily Record. This implies that the galaxy is in chaos following the Empire's defeat by the rebels, but it is quite a while before the most recent sequels.
The Star Wars universe is set to expand with the show running concurrently with three other series: The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. This places the new show in a bustling era within the Star Wars timeline.

Watts explained: "First of all, we picked that era because it's the best time for kids to get lost in the galaxy because it's also the worst time for kids to get lost in the galaxy. There's not anyone in place who can swoop in and help them."

He continued, noting the flexibility they've maintained regarding the exact timeline: "But we kept it a little bit flexible because we're tied to the kids' ages. So, as we look towards the future, we're still figuring out where it fits on the exact timeline."
Ford chimed in with an analogy about their approach to pinning down the dates: "Yeah, it's like we've thrown a dart but it's not quite landed on the board yet. So yeah, there'll be an answer one day and it'll be an exact date."
This setting ensures that fan-favourite characters such as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are still part of the narrative following the events of Return of the Jedi.
Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian and Grogu could potentially coincide with the Skeleton Crew's escapades. Whether a crossover similar to that seen in the Boba Fett series will occur remains to be seen by fans.
