Iconic noughties series creator shares huge revival update after 12 years

Desperate Housewives, the show that had audiences glued to their TVs in the 2000s, might be making a comeback - but not as we remember it. Creator Marc Cherry has opened up about his ideas for the iconic series' return, teasing fans who have been clamouring for more since the show ended in 2012.

Speaking to People, Cherry mused: "I would probably want to do the idea maybe in an earlier decade. Because the character I miss writing the most is actually Wisteria Lane.

"That was the most fun playground anyone in the history of television has ever had, because we owned the whole street."

Cherry continued contemplating the era for the potential prequel: "And there's times when I go, 'You know what? I wonder if I could write Wisteria Lane in like, 1966.'

"After revealing he's been asked about a reboot thousands of times, he divulged: 'The truth of the matter is that I have a couple of ideas to do it.'"

The Mirror reports how Marc Cherry reflected on his experience with the show and his growth as a creator: "I feel like if I ever got a chance to do that show again, I'd be better at the job. I learned so much.

"If you do a reboot, you have to have a really good artistic reason to do it. And at some point, I'll sit down with someone and go, 'Okay, let's talk about if there's a good enough 'why' to do it,'."

Starring household names such as Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Nicollette Sheridan, and Vanessa Williams, Desperate Housewives debuted in 2004 and swiftly became a sensation.

The series, set on the fictional Wisteria Lane, chronicled the lives of a group of women through the perspective of their friend and neighbour who tragically takes their own life in the opening episode.

Alongside this, the friends grapple with family issues and the secrets lurking behind the closed doors of their seemingly idyllic suburban neighbourhood.

The show was a hit with both audiences and critics, scooping numerous awards during its eight-year tenure, including Primetime Emmys, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2007, Desperate Housewives was reportedly the most-watched show globally within its demographic, boasting an audience of around 120 million.
