Emmerdale star Mike Parr has called for Brookside star Sue Johnston to join the ITV soap.

The actor, 38, made his first appearance as Ross Barton in 2013 and was later joined by the rest of his family, including his dad James (Bill Ward) and brothers Pete (Anthony Quinlan) and Finn (Joe Gill).

Despite being mentioned regularly, one character who has never been seen on the soap is Nana Barton, the mother of James and grandmother of Ross, Pete and Finn.

However, now could be the time for ITV bosses to bring the mysterious Nana Barton to screens as Mike issued a plea.

He exclusively told Express.co.uk and other press: "There was this character called Nana Barton. This isn't happening but I would love it.

"If Sue Johnston reads this, please come to Emmerdale because it would be my dream to work with you after watching you for so many years on Brookside and the royal family."

Mike added: "I think she's busy getting offers left, right and centre but if I could cast anybody to play a character that hasn't been in the show yet. Evil Nana Barton."

const loadOvpScript=()=>{let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=118222&playerApiId=v118222');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)};window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v118222"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

Mike also opened up about a potential reunion with Anthony, who played Pete from 2013 until 2020.

"I'd love Quinny back," Mike confessed. "He's not that much older than me but he felt older as soon as we got here because he had walked the walk with soaps and being in Hollyoaks."

The soap star continued: "He really showed me and Joe the ropes. There were so many things that we didn't know how to handle. Quinny is a lovely, soft, fun person to be around so I would love it."

Next week, Ross' past comes back to haunt him when he returns to the place where Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth) died.

Ross rushes to April's (Amelia Flanagan) rescue when she is kidnapped by Jade (Twinnie-Lee Moore) as punishment for the £10,000 going missing.

After receiving a location pin from Jade, Ross is overwhelmed with dread upon realising he is headed to the place where Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth) took her own life.

Opening up about Ross being forced to return to the very place where he watched his first love die, Mike said: "It’s hugely traumatic for him. It brings back the worst memories, seeing somebody die, especially the first girl who’s ever loved you and your first experience with love."
