Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is already ripping up the playbook at Old Trafford after a reported dressing room leak revealed he gave out player ratings following their 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town.

The Portuguese tactician took charge of his first game since arriving from Sporting and his methods to whip the club into shape are proving to be a hit.

The 39-year-old made no attempt to hide the reality of the task ahead for his squad after squandering an early lead to draw with the Tractor Boys, who have won once this season.

Amorim said his side would need to 'suffer' before they can improve. And one way he believes he can help them is by offering them his own personal rating out of 10, according to reports.

The Sun report the new boss gave his side a 5/10 rating for their performance at Portman Road, underlining his no-nonsense approach to raising standards within the squad.

Amorim 'delivered his verdict' to the squad with a brutal assessment of their performances and reportedly criticised two players for giving the ball away.

A source seemingly close to the dressing room leaked purported details about Amorim's rating and their low mark suggests he was far from happy.

"Amorim said their performance was a five out of 10," the source is quoted saying. "He was impressed with Ipswich and thought the game was played at an incredible intensity. But he added that it showed just how much United need to improve.

"He was critical of one or two players for losing the ball and not being in the right positions. But he also said, ‘Some of you I’ve had for two days, some two weeks’, so he was realistic. He did say they were going to have to learn quickly."

Marcus Rashford got the visitors off to a flyer inside 80 seconds to score under his sixth United manager. But the Red Devils were pegged back when Omari Hutchinson's effort deflected into the top corner past Andre Onana.

Amorim only had one week to prepare his side in his favoured 3-4-3 formation. And he has asked for patience while his players adapt to his new ideas.

"I know it is frustrating for the fans but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games," he said. "We are going to suffer for a long period. We will try to win games but this will take time.

"We have to risk it a little bit [now] and in the next year we will be better [otherwise] next year at the same stage we will be here with the same problems."
