Rory McIlroy embraces wife Erica Stoll as he ends tough year on a high in Dubai

Rory McIlroy triumphed at the DP World Tour Championship, clinching his third title at this prestigious event and equalling Seve Ballesteros's record with his sixth Race to Dubai win.

Celebrating with wife Erica Stoll and their daughter Poppy, McIlroy's victory capped off a tumultuous year marked by both professional and personal challenges.

On the course, he secured a two-stroke victory over Rasmus Hojgaard with a final-round three-under-par 69, but it hasn't been an easy ride for the golfing star.

The US Open in June saw him squander a two-shot lead with just four holes to play, handing the win to Bryson DeChambeau and prolonging his wait for a fifth major championship into its 11th year.

Despite near misses at the Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship, McIlroy finally found success again in Dubai.

Off the green, he faced personal turmoil when, in May, news broke of his divorce filing from Erica amidst the PGA Championship - a challenging time for the couple.

However, just a month after separation rumours, McIlroy shared that they were working on their relationship, driven by their commitment to their daughter.

"There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate," McIlroy acknowledged in a statement during the summer.

"Responding to each rumour is a fool's game. Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realised that our best future was as a family together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."

Since then, McIlroy has been spotted at events with Erica by his side. Erica and their daughter Poppy were also there to celebrate with him after his round in Dubai on Sunday.

After finishing at the 18th hole, McIlroy shared a heartfelt hug with his little girl and a kiss with Stoll. Later, during the trophy ceremony on the 18th green, McIlroy took a moment to honour his loved ones, telling Erica and Poppy, "I love you," in his victory speech.

Following the win, an emotional McIlroy opened up about the challenges he faced over the year. "Yeah It means a lot," he announced.

"I've been through a lot this year professionally, personally. It feels like the fitting end to 2024. You know, yeah, look, I've persevered this year a lot. Had close calls.

"Wasn't able to get it done... Really pleased with the way I finished and thankfully I hung on on a tough day and got it done."
