This Morning's Ben Shephard halts ITV show to announce he's taking break

This Morning: Ben Shephard won't be on show for 'weeks'

Ben Shephard has excitedly revealed he's taking a brief hiatus from This Morning duties.

Wrapping up today's programme, Ben dropped the bombshell to viewers that he's jetting off for an exclusive ITV project, prompting his co-presenter Cat Deeley to playfully probe if he's off to tackle the I'm A Celebrity jungle challenges.

During the broadcast, Ben shared: "I have some news to share. I'm taking a couple of weeks away to go and work on this exciting project for ITV. It's top secret. I'm going to the other side of the world now after the show. I can't say where it is though."

Intrigued, Cat pressed him: "Are you going to be eating witchetty grubs? Are you going to see my two mates?" Ben teased in response: "I cannot confirm or deny where in the world I am going. I can't confirm or deny who I'm going to see."

Yet, Ben reassured his fans that he'll return with all the juicy details, promising: "On Monday's show when you're here with Alison, I will be able to confirm where I am in the world. See you in a few weeks!"

Earlier this year, Ben transitioned to This Morning, leaving behind his spot on Good Morning Britain where he was a regular face alongside Susanna Reid and Kate Garraway. He's been hosting This Morning from Monday to Thursday with Cat Deeley, but next Monday, Alison Hammond, who usually presents the Friday slot with Dermot O'Leary, will fill in for him.

On today's edition of the show, presenters Ben and Cat welcomed culinary maestro James Martin, who delighted audiences with a selection of prime cheeses perfect for the festive period, not to mention dishing out his top tips for creating flawless roast spuds and jazzing up the Christmas staple: brussels sprouts.

In another segment of the programme, viewers watched as Ben sampled a regal wellbeing treatment favoured by none other than the King himself, which involved having oil drizzled along his forehead and hairline on live TV, followed by an invigorating third eye massage intended to induce supreme calm.

The broadcast opened with a spoof interview featuring a 'fake' Donald Trump. Viewer reactions to this were not good, with one writing: "#ThisMorning ridiculous and not at all funny ! Go away nobody is enjoying this rubbish," while another disapproved: "@ThisMorning well thats done in bad taste, changing channel."

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 10am
