BBC Breakfast Jon Kay's awkward Trump 'insult' leaves viewers gobsmacked

US Election: Jon Kay mistakes Trump's name for 'Tramp'

BBC News viewers said the same thing as Jon Kay made a huge slip-up while discussing the Trump rallies.

The BBC Breakfast presenter, 54, headed to Washington DC earlier in the week to bring viewers exclusive coverage of the momentous election, with Democratic Vice-President Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump in the running for President.

Ahead of Trump claiming he'd won a "magnificent victory for the American people" in the election, Kay revealed BBC News reporter Gary O'Donoghue was live at the Trump rally.

However, the BBC host appeared distracted as he accidentally referred to it as a "tramp rally".

Viewers immediately spotted the blunder and rushed to social media to share their thoughts, with one writing: "BBC just called the trump rally a 'tramp' rally. 4 years of liberal fume."

"Did you listen to the Freudian slip the BBC just made? Called it a Tramp rally instead of a Trump rally," added a second as another agreed: "LMFAOOOO NO WAY A BBC REPORTER JUST MESSED UP AND CALLED TRUMP TRAMP."

Echoing this, a third posted: "BBC Freudian Slip there "We return to the Tramp...eh Trump HQ."

Another claimed: "BBC started to insult Donald Trump."

Someone else added: "BBC News called Trump a tramp by accident. They’re so real."

Trump claimed victory in the election after winning the key swing states of Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. The conservative US network Fox News also projected Trump as the presidential winner.

Speaking from his watch party in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said he would fix the country and its borders, calling his comeback "the greatest political movement of all time."

He said: "[This is the] greatest political movement of all time. There's never been anything like this in this country.

"We're going to help our country heal. We've got a country that needs help ... badly ... We're going to fix our borders ... We've made history."

Trump was joined on stage by his wife, Melania, VP pick JD Vance, family members and aides ahead of his projected presidential victory.

He now has 267 Electoral College votes compared to Kamala Harris' 214. He needs just three more to take the presidency.
