Rosie Smith opens up about postpartum struggles on Lorraine's show with baby Billie

Lorraine Kelly’s daughter mocks her mum’s cooking skills

Rosie Smith, daughter of beloved TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, has opened up about the seldom-discussed challenges of postpartum anxiety during her first television appearance with her six-week-old baby Billie.

Gracing the set of her mother's eponymous ITV show on Tuesday (October 15), Rosie candidly discussed the overwhelming feelings new mothers face, a topic often shrouded in silence.

The segment, which also featured Dr Hilary Jones, saw Rosie admitting her surprise at the intensity of post-birth emotions: "I didn't really know about postpartum anxiety. I think a lot of people say your hormones are mental and you have all these feelings."

An adorable interruption by baby Billie led to a light-hearted moment as Rosie noted, "I think she's just done something," prompting Lorraine to chime in with a reassuring "That's fine!"

Continuing her heartfelt revelation, Rosie expressed how unprepared she was for certain fears: "I was very prepared to feel like, 'I'm not good enough, I'm doing well enough,' but I wasn't prepared for not feeling safe as I thought, 'That's not normal.'"

However, Dr Hilary offered comfort, explaining that such worries are indeed common: "It is normal. 15 percent of women postnatally will feel anxious and worried about everything. You have a new responsibility but you're also tired."

He highlighted the profound impact of hormonal changes and sleep deprivation on both body and mind, concluding that it's natural for new mothers to fret over every detail, including their newborns' wellbeing, reports the Mirror.

Rosie opened up about her concerns, saying: "Yeah I was more worried about him and that someone was going to get him." Dr Hillary chimed in with reassurance: "That's normal and it will all disappear."

Rosie went on to expressed relief, telling the TV doctor: "After six weeks, I feel the fog has lifted."

The beloved television presenter Lorraine Kelly couldn't hide her excitement previously on Good Morning Britain as she announced to Susanna Reid and Ed Balls that she had become a grandmother.

Gushing over the new arrival, she told the presenters that the latest Smith family member was simply "beautiful" and lavished praise on her daughter and son-in-law Steve for their transition into parenthood.

An ecstatic Lorraine exclaimed on the show: "It's just, it's brilliant! Everybody said to me you won't believe how much you'll love this little tiny thing and of course you do, but it's amazing to see your own child having a wee baby.

It's just lovely, it's wonderful. I can't stop smiling."

Lorraine airs weekdays on ITV1, from 9am and can be streamed via ITVX.
