Jurgen Klopp will earn an eye-watering annual salary once he begins his reign as the Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull.

The German's duties are set to commence at the start of 2025, as he prepares to take a break from touchline coaching and move into a high-level role supporting the drink's company's main clubs in Leipzig, Salzburg and New York.

Though Klopp will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of those sides, and the stresses which come with that, he will still be paid a handsome wage which exceeds the reported salary of his Liverpool replacement, Arne Slot.

According to Sky Germany, Klopp is due to be paid up to £10million per year, which is just shy of £200,000 a week. By comparison, Slot is believed to be on £6.2m per year, or roughly £120,000 a week.

Rather than taking training, working one-on-one with players and facing the media on a regular basis, Klopp will instead be tasked with developing coaches, advancing the Red Bull philosophy and identifying top playing talent from behind the scenes.

The new position has not gone down well with everyone, including many fans of Klopp's former club, Borussia Dortmund, who have slammed him for signing up to work with 'the most hated club in Germany', RB Leipzig.

Nevertheless, Klopp claims he is raring to get going. "After almost 25 years on the sideline, I could not be more excited to get involved in a project like this," he said.

"The role may have changed but my passion for football and the people who make the game what it is has not. By joining Red Bull at a global level, I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent that we have at our disposal."

Klopp has signed a long-term contract with Red Bull which includes an exit option in case the opportunity to manage the German national team presents itself.

The 57-year-old had a hugely successful managerial career across long spells with Mainz, Dortmund and Liverpool, and German football legend Lothar Matthaus hopes he will one day return to the dugout.

"I believe Red Bull thinks very big – Jurgen Klopp is very big," he said. "It fits together. There will be changes, as he will receive the total support of the company. Then let's see how it turns out, and let's nevertheless hope that he will perhaps return to the coaching bench at some point in the coming years."
