Golfer sums it up perfectly after best double bogey ever at Black Desert Championship

Two-time PGA Tour Peter Malnati could not have summed it up better when hitting a sensational double bogey at the 2024 Black Desert Championship.

The competition has already seen some sensational shots, with Ben Kohles acing the 17th and J.J. Spaun almost repeated that feat but saw his effort lip out. Camilo Villegas similarly struck his tee shot against the cup on the same hole.

Malnati has now joined in on the act of holing from a distance, in the most unusual of circumstances.

After making a birdie on the third hole, the 37-year-old made a complete mess of the par-4, 477-yard fourth hole.

Malnati saw his tee shot fly waywardly right and received a penalty as a result. He then hit his second tee shot markedly left to receive a second penalty in as many shots. The two-time PGA Tour winner then found the fairway with his third (fifth including penalties) tee shot.

His shot landed 177 yards out, though the distance did not prove an issue for Malnati – much to the surprise of those in attendance and the American himself.

Malnati saw his approach shot land slightly short, right of the green before it caught the slope and trickled into the hole for a double bogey.

The incredible shot sparked a hilarious reaction from Malnati, who could not believe that he had managed to find the cup from that distance after two woeful opening shots.

He could be heard saying: “Golf sucks so bad. That is the stupidest. Nice double.” Malnati hardly celebrated the shot after such a disappointing score, though he could not help but crack a smile after his rollercoaster of a hole.

Malnati made par on the opening two holes on Thursday before scoring a birdie on the third. However, his double bogey kickstarted a string of shaky shots which saw him add another bogey on the sixth, but he responded in style with a birdie on the seventh.

The American hit another bogey on the back nine and ended the day with a score of two-over-73 in Round 1. Malnati was therefore tied for 116th place, and he was afforded time to compose himself that evening after play was suspended until Friday morning due to darkness.
