EastEnders star Larry Lamb has shared that the upcoming Gavin and Stacey finale will feature an “emotional” and “beautiful” ending.

The 77-year-old actor, best known for his role as Mick Shipman in the beloved BBC sitcom, starred alongside James Corden and Ruth Jones, who play Smithy and Nessa respectively.

The hit show originally aired for three series from 2007 to 2010 and returned for a one-off festive episode in 2019.

Recently, the cast reunited to film a final Christmas special, which promises to be a heartfelt conclusion to the series.

Appearing on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, Larry said: “It was a trip down memory lane because suddenly there we are and we’re facing the fact that, effectively, this is the end of this venture, the end of this journey, and it was so emotional.

“And chronologically, on the last day of filming, we were filming the end of the story, which is so unusual because nine times out of 10 you’ll find you’re doing the end on the first day, and you’re doing the beginning right at the end of it all.

“What we were filming was the end of the story on the very last day.

“There’s a mental ‘tick, tick’ going on all the time and the emotions (are) just building and building and building,” he added. He described the ending as “bursting out at you” and revealed that it’s “really beautiful.”

Larry also mentioned that James and Ruth hosted a fantastic party that was truly wonderful after they wrapped up filming, saying: “James and Ruth really pushed the boat out and it was a wonderful party because over those five, six weeks you’ve got, I suppose a total of about 80 people all come together.”

When asked if he is "absolutely sure it's the end," the actor responded: "What you wanna do is you wanna get James and Ruth on here and question them because that’s where it all comes from."

Earlier this year, James and Ruth delighted fans after revealing they had finished writing a new episode for the beloved BBC show. Taking to Instagram, the duo said at the time: "Some news… It’s official!!! We have finished writing the last ever episode of Gavin and Stacey. See you on Christmas Day, BBC One. Love Ruth and James.”

The final episode of Gavin And Stacey will air on BBC iPlayer and BBC One on 25 December.
