Rory McIlroy has revealed his final schedule for the year, having endured a difficult 2024 on the golf course.

The Northern Irishman’s wait for a major will extend into its second decade after McIlroy missed the chance to end his 10-year wait for a championship title.

Having finished inside the top 25 at both the Masters and PGA Championship, McIlroy looked destined to pick up his first major title at the US Open, only for a final-day choke to cost him.

Describing it as one of the worst days of his career, McIlroy struggled to put the Pinehurst disaster behind him and failed to make the cut during July’s Open Championship at St Andrews.

McIlroy did arrest some of his form issues in the proceeding tournaments, even registering back-to-back second-placed finishes at the Irish Open and BMW PGA Championship.

But ahead of the final few months of the year, McIlroy’s full schedule is starting to become clear.

That’s because McIlroy confirmed he’s heading to New Zealand for the first time in his professional career to round off the year.

Speaking after this weekend’s Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, the four-time major winner said: “I going to join some good friends playing some of the great golf courses of New Zealand such as Tara Iti, Kauri Cliffs and great courses like those.

“I have a friend who owns a house in New Zealand, so he is organising us for five days, so it’s going to be nice playing golf down there and just hanging out at the end of the year”.

McIlroy last golfed in New Zealand as a teenager 18 years ago when he made up part of the European Team that played the Sir Michael Bonallach Trophy at the host Auckland Golf Club.

The 35-year-old revealed he’s simply looking forward to ‘spending time doing other stuff’ after a hectic year.

He added: “It’s been a busy year with this week’s Dunhill being my 25th tournament while the Abu Dhabi HSBC and the following week’s DP World Tour Championship will be my 26th and 27th of my year.

“I’ve then still a bit going on as I have that match in Vegas later in November and then will be looking forward to going to New Zealand.

“So, I will still be keeping busy these next few months but already looking forward to doing other things that I am interested in and just spending time doing other stuff”.
