Strictly Come Dancing fans were quick to complain just minutes into the third live show on Saturday, October 5.

The beloved BBC One dance spectacle was back for its Movie Week extravaganza. The episode kicked off with a fun skit dedicated to a fictional missing Glitterball mystery, casting everyone as potential suspects.

However, viewers weren't a fan of the opening moments as they complained they wanted to watch the dancing and go straight into the show. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers aired their thoughts as one person said: "Just. Start. The. F**king. Show. Already. #Strictly", while another complained: "Too much messin abaaaht at the start already! #Strictly".

Further critiques followed with comments such as: "They always have to start movie week with a cringe cheesy VT lol. It's basically a tradition at this point. #Strictly" while another added "Not a fan of the opening bit... #Strictly!"

In keeping with the Movie Week theme, the professional dancers channelled characters from the Despicable Me franchise. Kai Widdrington assumed the role of Gru, portraying the grumpy protagonist, while his fellow dancers slipped into yellow bodysuits, transforming into the film's miniature minions, reports the Mirror.

Viewers were left scratching their heads over the opening dance sequence, flocking to Twitter, now X, to voice their opinions. One viewer remarked: "Not at all keen on the minions opening number. There didn't seem to be much actual dancing going on #Strictly" while another commented: "What a bonkers opening number! #Strictly".

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=118222&playerApiId=v118222');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v118222"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript();ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

A third chimed in: "It's movie week on #Strictly and that pro number to Minions was not the one" and yet another added: "That opening routine was.... #Strictly."

However, some fans were utterly charmed by the performance, with one saying: "Loved the opening dance tonight #Strictly #scd", another stated: "Loved that opening dance #Strictly", someone else declared: "Best. Opening dance. Everrrrr! #Strictly" and another enthusiastic viewer exclaimed: "OMG THIS DESPICABLE ME OPENING PERFORMANCE YASSSS #strictly."

The episode featured the professional dancers and their celebrity partners delivering movie-themed performances, donning full costumes for the occasion.

However, sadly, DIY SOS star Nick Knowles and his dance partner Luba Mushtuk were due to perform the Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2 before Nick pulled out on Friday due to an injury. As per the Strictly rules, the pair will "receive a bye" through to next week’s show in the hope he has recovered.

It comes as last weekend Olympian Tom Dean and his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova became the first pair to leave the competition.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on BBC One.
