Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd has claimed that one soap star turned up for filming drunk before they were due to play an alcohol fueled scene.

The actor, who plays David Platt on the soap, was appearing on the latest episode of the On The Sofa podcast with his fellow castmates, Colson Smith and Ben Price.

He said: "I've done a scene with someone who tried to get drunk for the scene. (It was a) night shoot, it was the same thing as Quint in the boat (in the film Jaws), they forgot everything and they had to pull the entire shoot. They sent everybody home."

Despite some actors relying on alcohol to help them film drunken scenes, other Corrie actors have found it easier to get into character than others. The trio claimed that one actor stood out from the rest.

Ben, who plays Nick Tilsley on the ITV soap, said that there was one actor on the cobbles who has impressed him most when it comes to filming boozy scenes.

He said: "I can let you into a little secret here, because I've done a lot of scenes with Peter Barlow, when he was playing drunk, and Nick would help him in and out of pubs and out of very dangerous situations.

"We'd get into long duologues and he would spin around before the take, and make himself dizzy."

The actor added: "He'd then enter the scene dizzy and stagger around. It was a wonderful portrayal of drunk, but he was just dizzy."

Earlier in the podcast, the three actors even referenced a little heard of fact about the famous Steven Spielberg film, Jaws, and how one scene was actually ended abruptly after an actor decided to drink alcohol before filming a drunken moment in the film.

Jack said: "We found out that when Quint was in the boat, and he's giving that Indianapolis speech about the sub that went down and all the sharks came in and ate them all.

"He famously did that scene drunk and it was a disaster, he forgot all the lines, he didn't know what he was doing, he didn't know where he was and Spielberg had to wrap the day."
