BBC Radio 2's Vernon Kay was hailed as "lucky" by his colleague Zoe Ball during Wednesday's show after he shared his morning routine with his wife Tess Daly.

As Zoe, 53, passed the baton over to Vernon, 50, she was eager to know if he considered himself an early riser and the theme of his morning alarm.

After revealing that he, Tess and their daughters all woke up at 7am, he shared why he didn't need an alarm.

Vernon spilled: "I have Strictly Come Dancing's Tess Daly roll over and go, 'It's time to get up', with a dig of the elbow, 'Come on, get up'."

Probed about whether he energetically springs from the bed, Vernon said he rolls over after "a dig" from his wife, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Excited at the thought, Zoe joked: "Oh, you're a lucky man! Living the dream Vernon Kay, honestly."

Moving on, the couple's conversation steered towards the ongoing series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Sharing his thoughts on contestant Pete Wicks, Vernon claimed he was "sexy, sassy and strong" but that he also saw vulnerability in him.

"The way he's opening up and the interviews I've read and the way he walks over to Tess, is like a massive sigh of relief," Vernon commented. "He seems like such a nice fella."

Following Zoe's compliments towards Pete's interaction with his mother on last weekend's show, he concluded: "He's coming across really well."

Vernon and Tess have one of the longest-standing marriages in the showbiz world, having exchanged vows back in 2003.

Together they share two daughters; Phoebe, 19, and Amber, 14.

During an Instagram Q&A session last year, the Strictly presenter shared the secret to their successful relationship.

Opening up to her followers, she revealed: "We still sit down for dinner and have so much to talk about, we still have a real laugh.

"I see when his name comes up on his phone, I'm like 'yay'."

Adding to the insight into their charming home life, she added: "We have a good laugh, he's always messing about, dancing and singing in the kitchen. [There's] never a dull moment."
