NCIS season 22 release date, cast and episode count as it returns this month

NCIS season 22 is set to premiere but when exactly will the iconic police procedural return and who will be starring in the new episodes? 

NCIS hasn’t been seen on CBS since May when Agent Jessica Knight (played by Katrina Law) unexpectedly accepted a new job as the chief of training for the REACT team. 

The agent will now have to move to the West Coast, so what will this mean for her relationship with chief medical examiner Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen)?

NCIS season 22 release date

NCIS season 22 is going to make its big debut on Monday, October 14, on CBS, and will be followed by the two-hour premiere of the eagerly anticipated prequel series NCIS: Origins. 

As of yet, an official UK start date for the 22nd outing hasn’t been announced yet but will be shown on Disney+.

Despite the drama having an almost entirely new cast from when it first started, the cast for NCIS season 22 is believed to look a lot like the cast of the previous series.

Actor Gary Cole is expected to reprise his role as supervisory special agent Alden Parker, with his second-in-command Agent Timothy McGee portrayed by Sean Murray. 

Also making a comeback will be Wilmer Valderrama as Nick Torres, Brian Dietzen as Jimmy Palmer, Diona Reasonover as Kasie Hines and Rocky Carroll as Leon Vance. 

While the series 21 finale does suggest Katrina Law’s Jessica Knight will be leaving, so far there has been no confirmation of this so it is thought that she is going to star in season 22.

NCIS season 22 episode count 

Season 21 was a far shorter series than usual with just 10 episodes, due to the actors and writers’ strike that dominated the entertainment industry last year. 

Thankfully, this won’t be the case this time around with TV Guide reporting that season 22 is set to consist of 21 episodes in total. 

Creators have kept quiet on the majority of the episode titles so far, bar the first instalment which will be called Empty Nest. 

NCIS season 22 premieres on Monday, October 14, on CBS.
