All Creatures Great and Small stars drop Season 6 bombshell

All Creatures Great and Small teaser clip for new Channel 5 drama

As  All Creatures Great and Small continues its fifth season on Channel 5, some of its biggest stars have given fans a glimpse into the show's future.

With a sixth season already confirmed, Samuel West and Anna Madeley discussed how closely the show will continue to follow the famous James Herriot books.

Although the next season is in the pipeline, both actors admitted they are still in the dark about what’s in store. Anna told Radio Times: "We don’t know anything about series 6."

Samuel chipped in: “No. We’re about to have some discussions about that. I mean, one of the things that the books do is dramatise the fact that Tristan leaves.

"Brian, the original Tristan, left the practice. And I don’t think we’ll be doing that. I hope not. So at that point, I think we will be non-canonical.”

Samuel also reflected on the unpredictability of being part of an ongoing series. "The fact that we don't know what's coming in series six is sometimes a little bit, I wouldn't say worrying, but sometimes a little bit of a concern, but at the same time it has to contain the possibility of being surprised, just like life."

While the specifics of season 6 remain under wraps, we do know that the rest of season 5 will feature the return of Callum Woodhouse as Tristan, who was off fighting in the war during season 4.

Series five and six will both consist of six hour-long episodes each plus Christmas specials.

Also returning for the fifth series is Nicholas Ralph as vet James Herriot, and Samuel West as his mercurial mentor Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as the matriarch of Skeldale House, Mrs Hall along with Rachel Shenton as the charismatic Helen Herriot.

James Anthony-Rose also reappears as Richard Carmody. Also returning is Patricia Hodge as the wonderfully sophisticated Mrs Pumphrey, and her adored pampered Pekingese Tricki.
