Fans expressed disappointment as The Bear swept The Emmys, questioning its placement in the comedy category.

Critics took to social media platforms like X, formerly known as Twitter, to voice their discontent.

One user argued: "The Bear is not a comedy show idk why they keep getting away with category fraud every year." [sic]

Despite the show's success, Ayo Edebiri missed out on winning Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series for her portrayal of Sydney Adamu.

Another expressed: "I was so sure Ayo Edebiri would go home with her second Emmy Award I feel very humbled."

Viewers also noted the inconsistency in awards distribution among the cast, with one commenting: "How did every single cast member from The Bear (that was nominated) EXCEPT Ayo win... that's crazy."

Eugene Levy addressed the controversy during his opening monologue, humorously acknowledging the debate over the show's genre by stating" "I know some of you might be expecting us to make a joke about whether The Bear is really a comedy...but in the true spirit of The Bear we will not be making any jokes."
