Coronation Street Carla's romance with female resident 'confirmed' and fans say same thing

Corrie: Carla confronts Jenny and Daisy about theft

Coronation Street seems to have given the nod to a budding romance between Carla Connor and another female character.

Fans will remember that Carla, played by Alison King since 2006, was left devastated earlier this year when her marriage to Peter Barlow, portrayed by Chris Gascoyne, ended with his departure from the cobbles.

Carla's situation worsened when her friend Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, was arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton, a role taken on by Cait Fitton. However, Roy was eventually released and it was revealed that Lauren was still alive.

In the midst of all this drama, Carla has been growing closer to DS Lisa Swain, played by Lisa Meyers, who is the detective sergeant on Lauren's case. With Lauren back on the cobbles, Lisa is determined to catch the real culprit behind her disappearance: Joel Deering, played by Calum Lill.

Adding to the intrigue, Carla has shown sympathy towards the stressed detective and mother, Lisa. She even offered Lisa's daughter Betsy, played by Sydney Martin, work experience at the Underworld factory.

This has led fans to speculate that a romance could be brewing between Carla and Lisa. In Monday's episode (September 9), the soap seemed to confirm these suspicions, reports the Liverpool Echo.

During the episode, Swain brought Carla in for questioning after Betsy confessed to seeing Carla knock a boy off his bike last month before driving away.

Viewers were thrown into a frenzy during the latest episode when Betsy suggested Lisa and Carla's meetup seemed like a "date" a notion Lisa quickly dismissed as "ridiculous." Despite Lisa's rebuttal, Carla appeared rather flattered by the implication, biting her lip and grinning sheepishly.

Fans didn't miss a beat, taking to social media to express their excitement. One fan posted: "Carla looks so chuffed at the idea of having a secret affair with Lisa I'm obsessed."

Comments continued to pour in with another fan noting: "The little lip bite then Carla smiling!" Someone else highlighted the subtleties of the performances, saying: "It's the little things that really make a character or a scene. The soft smiles, the lip bite. Just natural reactions."

Excitement grew amongst viewers, with another chipping in: "Lisa is definitely drawn to Carla and definitely fancies her. Carla is definitely drawn to Lisa and feels there is a connection between them. Can't wait."

One particularly enamoured viewer declared: "Carla's face at the thought of a relationship with swain (her smile). Lisa losing focus when Carla walked in. The lip bite (if you know you know). Basically parenting Betsy together. Carla looking Lisa up and down. Lisa looking Carla's file up."

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
