Loose Women: Brenda Edwards talks about debt

Brenda Edwards, the beloved Loose Women personality, bared her soul about past financial woes that she says she concealed from her former husband.

During Tuesday's (September 10) broadcast of the much-loved chat show, anchored by Ruth Langsford and featuring Linda Robson, Janet Street-Porter alongside Brenda, discussions veered into personal money troubles. This topic was sparked by news of Strictly Come Dancings Kristina Rihanoff and her partner Ben Cohen confessing to grappling with hefty debts.

Engaging in the candid talk, Brenda shared her own battle with debt, recounting: "I've spoken about the debt that I had and it was thousands."

Digging deeper into her past, she explained how the debts originated and why she chose to keep her then-husband in the dark: "It was a college debt from years ago but I went into a marriage with it and I didn't tell my ex-husband about it because it was my debt and I wanted to take care of it."

The interest rates were what truly exacerbated the situation for her. She recalled, afflicted: "It was the interest! And I didn't realise at the time when I took it out in college that the interest was something like 38%, so I was always paying off the interest and not the debt," reports the Mirror.

The ordeal spiralled, leaving her deeply distressed until a friend intervened with financial aid. "It just got worse and worse which was very upsetting and then a friend helped me out and gave me a lumpsum because they're giving me the lumpsum to pay off everything," Brenda recounted gratefully.

Probed on whether anyone was privy to her economic difficulties then, Brenda firmly stated: "No, I didn't talk to anybody about it! Not the kids, not my ex, not anybody. I just wanted to deal with it and I dealt with it but that's why I don't do credit cards."

Linda Robson was coaxed by Ruth Langsford to unveil a personal chapter of her life on the show, discussing how Linda's daughter now oversees her finances.

The former Birds of a Feather star admitted that despite previously earning a handsome sum from her television success and subsequent advertising deals, she fell into a financial abyss through the misuse of store credit cards.

Linda Robson confessed: "I kept it a secret. Then I ended up dovet diving, I ended up staying in bed all day worrying about it," detailing the depths of her money troubles.
