Former Coronation Street actor Charlie Condou has joined the cast of Doctor Who for its highly-anticipated 15th series. The BBC has yet to reveal any information about the role he'll be playing, but Charlie will be joining Ncuti Gatwa, Millie Gibson and new companion Varada Sethu for the next season, according to Radio Times.

Charlie is best known for playing series regular Marcus Dent on the ITV soap from 2007 to 2008 and again from 2011 to 2014. After saying goodbye to the cobbles, he appeared in a recurring role as Ben Sherwood in Holby City from 2019 to 2020.

It's been all change for Doctor Who as Ncuti made his debut as the 15th doctor during the Christmas special last year and immediately made an impact with viewers. He was joined by his new companion Ruby Sunday (played by Millie Gibson) as the pair began a brand new era of the show.

The two have already filmed another Christmas special which is set to air on Christmas Day this year and they will be joined by another new companion, Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu). As well as this, the 2025 series has already been filmed but beyond that nothing has been set in stone.

Creator Russell T Davies previously told Radio Times: "I’m working on the fourth script now for season three. It’s not actually commissioned, that’s still up in the air.

"But that’s the same for every TV programme. I shouldn’t say we’re confident, because that’s asking for a fall, but we’re very confident, to be honest. And we’ll just keep going."

As well as the original series, Russell is also bringing Doctor Who fans a spin-off titled The War Between The Land and Sea.

It was officially confirmed at Comic Con last month after being the subject of intense speculation for some time.

The War between the Land and the Sea will feature Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient as UNIT's Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Colonel Christopher Ibrahim respectively.

The showrunner revealed that pre-production had began on Monday 20 August as he shared a picture of a script at the readthrough session.

He penned: "Day One. The war begins. Readthrough day for all 5 episodes of THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA.

"So much excitement. What a cast! Thrills, deaths, chases, fish and seven seas of danger. @bbcdoctorwho @disneydoctorwho @bbciplayer. "

Doctor Who series 15 will air next year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
