Loose Women's Janet Street-Porter found herself under fire on Wednesday's episode after she made a comment about appearances and makeup. 

During the latest episode, the panellists dived into a fiery debate: "Do you judge someone for their makeup?" in which Janet, 77, made a bold admission.

Recalling a past experience where she judged someone for wearing too much makeup, she admitted: "I've got to own up about something I did two years ago, I went to a hospital for an appointment and I was feeling really rubbish, shuffling in for my appointment."

She continued: "The person on the desk had so much makeup on she had two sets of false eyelashes, she'd done all the contouring, her lips were outlined in case I didn't know where her mouth was, she was completely done to bits with the long finger nails so she couldn't really type."

In a shock admission, she confessed to the stunned audience: "She looked at me as though I was something that had been dredged up from the rubbish bin, I got so upset after I'd been to the hospital they sent me a form: 'How was your experience of your visit?' and in the comments box I put: 'The woman in reception needs to wear half as much makeup!'", reports the Mirror.

Charlene White, fellow panellist, reprimanded her with a sharp: "Did you? Janet!" but Janet stood her ground, insisting: "It's not very welcoming!"

When queried if the hospital ever replied to her feedback, Janet humorously conceded: "No, they obviously thought nutter alert! The point I'm trying to make, my reaction may have been extreme but I do think too much makeup is a form of armour..."

Loose Women's Charlene, 44, didn't hesitate to question the negativity surrounding heavy makeup use, suggesting that we shouldn't pass judgement on someone's makeup quantity.

Meanwhile, viewers took to Twitter, now X, to voice their opinions, with one user commenting: "Do you judge someone for their makeup? The main reason most wear makeup is because they don't feel too good about themselves. We all have those days, just a bit of mascara and blush just gives you a lift. Just let people be themselves."

Elsewhere, a different viewer agreed with Janet's perspective, stating: "@The_Real_JSP is right. Many now wear so much makeup up as a mask and armour; of course it's their choice, but usually means low self-confidence and esteem. A guy said to me recently, that he feels it actually hides their true personalities and real beauty #LooseWomen."

Meanwhile, another fan added over the makeup debate: "If someone is judging you, it’s more about themselves & how they feel. No one will get life completely right, we are all Learning each day and coping. xx."
