Good Morning Britain's Ed Balls jokingly 'punched' by guest as 'medic on standby'

Good Morning Britain: Ed Balls takes on Chris Eubank Jr

Good Morning Britain viewers were in stitches when host Ed Balls geared up for an impromptu scrap with boxing ace Chris Eubank Jr in a hilarious stint on Wednesday morning.

Donning his makeshift armour, Ed was all set to withstand a string of punches from their guest, with only 20 seconds to hang tough and a belt cinched round his middle for safety.

Co-host Susanna Reid warned viewers: "We should say we have our medic Phil on standby if Ed needs any sort of support."

But as the studio bell clanged, chaos ensued with Ed cluelessly asking: "Are you punching me or am I punching you?"

Chris didn't hesitate to unleash his barrage of punches to Ed's midsection, whilst Susanna gasped at the intensity of the swings as she shouted: "Oh my goodness! Gentler, gentle."

While Ed charged forward unfazed, Chris replied: "I'm trying not to go too low!"

In typical broadcaster fashion, Susanna couldn't stop shouting out alerts at Chris to avoid hitting below the belt.

As the timer buzzed off, Ed popped up victorious, trading a fist-bump and a hearty hug with Chris.

Praised by the pro for taking it like a champ, Ed spoke about his belt which kept getting lower and lower.

He commented: "I kept pushing it down, I kept thinking, 'get it lower, get it lower'. I was slightly worried I might have to change my surname."

Susanna couldn't contain her giggles as she probed Chris about whether or not he went easy on her co-star.

He replied: "I mean, I'm not going to kill the guy on national TV."

Ed later admitted that although Chris was coping well initially, things got a bit more intense as time went on.

This wasn't the first time viewers saw Chris take on a GMB host as he punched former presenter Ben Shephard in a similar fashion a few years ago.

Ben seemed to share some words of wisdom as Ed revealed he jokingly told him to "get your affairs in order."

Ed revealed: "He said, say all the things you want to say to all the people special in your life."
