The Tower fans 'confused' as ITV issues urgent warning before emotional scenes

Watch season 3 trailer for The Tower returning to ITV

ITV's acclaimed series The Tower made a dramatic return to television, leaving viewers grappling with intense scenes.

Launching into its anticipated third series on Monday (September 2), the show, although devoid of the famous tower in this latest instalment, features returning cast members such as Gemma Whelan in her role as Met officer DS Sarah Collins and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.

The series plunged into the heart of London's grim landscape, opening up with the stabbing of a teenage boy - a scene emblematic of the city's ongoing battle with knife crime and street violence.

Audiences were forewarned about the distressing content they were about to witness.

However, the fast-paced and convoluted plot left many in the audience struggling to follow. They took to what was formerly known as Twitter to voice frustrations and seek clarity.

A viewer expressed their confusion: "It's lost me already," reports the Mirror.

Others queried the characters' identities and motives, with comments like: "I'm confused already, who's Spencer? Why have they arrested that guy? Who's Ryan?"

One fan shared: "I'm so glad I'm not the only one who is lost, I have no idea what is going on or who is who."

While another admitted: "I'm enjoying it but really haven't a clue what is going on."

In spite of the shocking violence on display, some viewers were delighted to see the show back on their screens. One fan enthused: "Had some crap TV for months, especially weekends with the Euros then the olympics then p*****g Wimbledon, now we finally start getting some new series coming back, #Grace last night now #TheTower."

Another fan chimed in with support writing: "Loving #TheTower So Glad It's Back On," whilst a third viewer expressed: "So glad this amazing show is back."

The opening episode plunged DS Sarah into the depths of a murky case involving the fatal stabbing of a young teenager. Her quest for the truth soon put her at odds with a shady operation spearheaded by DI Kieran Shaw (Emmett J Scanlan), who was working alongside Sarah's former partner, Steve, who is currently entrenched in deep cover work.
