This Morning: Ben talks about his beard and son leaving home

Ben Shephard delighted fans with a glimpse into his family life during his return to This Morning.

Kicking off the show, Ben and co-host Cat Deeley discussed their summer escapades, leading to Ben revealing his son's departure from the family nest.

As they greeted the audience, Ben expressed: "It is lovely to be back, we have missed you, have you missed us, everybody?"

Commenting on the show's recent promotional shoot, Ben recounted: "We had so much fun, that promo that was up on the roof, we had to be cherry-picked up there."

"And it took seven minutes for each person to go up and seven minutes to come down," Cat interjected. "It was hot, it was windy, there was no water, and I needed a pee," reports the Mirror.

Welcoming Cat back, Ben inquired: "It is lovely to be back, did you have a nice summer? You look nice and tanned."

Cat responded warmly: "I had a really nice time," and continued: "Just hung out with the family. We went on holiday for a bit, and then we're like, we're all having such a nice time. shall we stay? How was yours? the boy is back, Annie must be so happy?"

Opening up about his personal life, Ben shared: "Sam came home from travelling, which was very, very emotional."

With a family photo displayed, the Tipping Point host elaborated: "Yeah that was the first day he was back, and we went for a walk through the park, and then we went to the pub."

"I bet she hasn't let them go," Cat said, referring to Ben's wife, to which he responded: "And every now and again I walk past and she's just gazing at him.

"He's been away for seven and a half months, off to university next week, back to school for lots of people today as well."

Cat admitted that her children felt "a bit wobbly" about the return to school.

Conversation soon shifted to Ben's summer transformation, with him sharing: "I had a very fertile chin experience this summer."

"I like the beard," revealed Cat. "Who is in favour? All say aye!"

Ben turned to guest Gyules Brandreth saying: " A very grumpy Gyles over there who's not loving it."

Gyles confessed his ambivalence: "I am not so sure. You young people, every male I meet seems to have a beard, every young man. How nice that yours is pleasantly grizzled."

Ben elaborated that even his mother wasn't impressed by his new look, remarking that it makes him "look old and her feel old."
