ITV Lorraine fans all say same thing as she returns to work after emotional news

GMB: Lorraine speaks about being a new Grandmother

Lorraine viewers had the same view as the presenter returned to her self-titled show on Monday (September 2). The 64-year-old has been missing from the ITV programme for weeks, with Ranvir Singh and Christine Lampard filling in for her.

Her comeback comes just days after she became a grandmother for the first time as her daughter, Rosie Smith, welcomed a baby girl last week.

Opening the show, Lorraine was joined by Dr Hilary and Dr Amir, who quickly congratulated the TV star on her exciting news. "She's beautiful. I know I'm biased but she's absolutely beautiful," Lorraine gushed.

Issuing an update on how Rosie has taken to motherhood, Lorraine added: "Rosie's great. She's really taken to it, I knew she would anyways. And her Steve is an angel. He's been brilliant and been so hands on."

Shortly after the show started, Lorraine viewers couldn't help but make a joke about when she will be taking her next break. Writing on X, one said: "Lorraine will be taking 6 months off soon cos the daughter just had a baby."

A second declared: "A grandchild for Lorraine Kelly? She’s just secured the next 20 years of half-terms and summer holidays off work!" Someone else shared: Surprised #Lorraine isn't taking granny maternity leave."

The Scottish presenter couldn't contain her excitement as she opened up about becoming a grandmother on Good Morning Britain earlier in the morning.

Popping into the ITV studio to chat about what was coming up on her show, the conversation quickly turned to her family as host Susanna Reid offered her congratulations.

An ecstatic Lorraine enthused: "Baby Billie is here, she's beautiful, she's absolutely beautiful. It's just, it's brilliant! Everybody said to me you won't believe how much you'll love this little tiny thing and of course you do, but it's amazing to see your own child having a wee baby. It's just lovely, it's wonderful. I can't stop smiling!"

Rosie announced the arrival of her baby girl on Thursday (August 29) as she shared an image of the newborn gripping her finger. She wrote: "Baby Billie Kelly Smith-White is here. 29-08-2024. It feels like she’s been here the whole time and we’re not quite sure what the point of anything was before.

"I’d heard how amazing midwives are but they are genuinely walking angels - she’s been welcomed into the world with so much love already."

Sharing Rosie's post to her own Instagram, Lorraine proudly penned: "I have been BURSTING to share this wonderful news with you! Baby Billie is an angel and I’m so proud of [Rosie] and [Steve] who will be the best parents."
