Caroline Quentin admits painful Bridgerton moment 'was real and not an accident'

Bridgerton: Caroline Quentin reveals mishap during scene

Caroline Quentin admitted she almost lost a tooth in a very "real" scene in Bridgerton.

The actress, 64, joined Alan Titchmarsh on his self-titled show where they discussed what she'd been getting up to recently, which proved to be a pretty full schedule. Caroline outlined she was currently starring in a play with her daughter that was once banned due to its X-rated content.

She brought up her role as a vet on Doc Martin, as she joined her long-term friend and former Men Behaving Badly co-star Martin Clunes, with the pair non-stop laughing on set as they caught up.

Talk then turned to her small but significant part in Netflix's hot series Bridgerton.

Caroline played the role of the obnoxious Lady Berbrooke who was trying to offload her baron son to wed Daphne Bridgerton.

A proposal was outlined by the persistent Baron Berbrooke but Daphne was not interested because she had her eye firmly on the Duke of Hastings, who was against the idea of marriage and starting a family of his own.

Given Baron Berbrooke was the only person coming forward asking for Daphne's hand-in-marriage, her mother Violet Bridgertin, decided to invite the Baron and his mother (Caroline) to afternoon tea.

Mrs Berbrooke lands a number of insults and is outright rude as she expresses what her son requires from a wife. While outlining a number of ludicrous requirements she chows down on the free spread of cakes and sandwiches.

As she tucks into a cake, viewers will recall a loud crunching noise that was rather amusing but Caroline confirmed it wasn't scripted and she'd actually believed she was going to lose a tooth.

Caroline and Alan got on to the subject of the famous scene, with the guru gardener joking: "There goes a tooth."

To which the actress surprised him with her response, adding: "Do you know, my friend Lisa who I was at school with does all of the food on Bridgerton and we were in a dormitory together when we were little, little girls and when I bit down it was one of those silver balls that are on cakes."

"Yeah," Alan nodded, the TV personality continued:"Well she came over and went 'I'm so sorry," she added: "But that was genuine it really was like I think 'I've taken a tooth out'."

The gardener chuckled: "It sounded great," as Caroline corrected: "No it wasn't, that is me biting down on one of those silver balls." Chirping back, Alan told her: "You see your timings bang on even when you're biting into a cake."

Alan Titchmarsh's Love Your Weekend airs Saturdays on ITV1 and ITVX.
