Fans launch desperate petition to save Amazon Prime show axed weeks after its release

My Lady Jane: Emily Bader stars in trailer for Prime Video series

Fans of the Amazon Prime series My Lady Jane have launched a petition to save it. The historical romance show was cancelled just seven weeks after season one had been released - and despite glowing reviews from the critics.

All eight episodes of the alternate-world fantasy, based on a novel by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton and Jodi Meadows, are available to stream on the platform now. The show is set in a fantastical version of 16th-century England, where humans coexist with shape-shifters who can take the form of either people or animals.

Emily Bader, who plays the show’s titular character, had discussed her dreams for Jane Grey and Lord Guildford Dudley (Edward Bluemel), who she said are "made for each other". However, following the news that the show has not been renewed for season two, we may never see how things work out for the pair.

In the story, Jane becomes sympathetic to the oppressed shape-shifters, which proves problematic for the ruling classes as she rises to power. This results in an exciting forbidden romance and plenty of drama.

The Guardian gave it an impressive four out of five stars, while Forbes branded it “one of the best shows of 2024”. While the Standard described it as “brilliantly bonkers” and “rampantly horny”.
