Ellie Simmonds made her presenting debut at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris on Wednesday (August 28) and the support for the 29-year-old continued tonight.

The Paralympics aired on Channel 4 on Thursday evening (August 29), with Ellie teaming up with Clare Balding to host the programme. The five-time Paralympic swimming champion and BAFTA-winner was flooded with support from viewers, who branded her a "natural" and complimented her presenting style.

Taking to social media, one wrote: "Just tuned into #Paralympics2024 on @Channel4 and @EllieSimmonds1 is a natural presenter, enjoying hearing about the complexities of being a Paralympic swimmer. We’ve got an exciting 11 days ahead."

Another agreed: "Channel 4 coverage starting of the Paralympics. Ellie Simmonds. Isn’t she just a little ray of sunshine. And she’s clearly been working on her presenting skills. Also Ade Adepitan. Crushing it!"

"Ellie Simmonds, is a darling, isn't she," added a third as another declared: "Ellie Simmonds has slotted into the presenter role well." Great Britain claimed their first gold as Poppy Maskill beat the world record in the women's S14 100m butterfly final.

The 19-year-old from Middlewich led from start to finish before powering home first, finishing 0.33 seconds faster than the previous record.

The teenager, who competes in the S14 intellectually impaired classification, returned in just one minute and 33 seconds. Yi Lam Chan of Hong Kong won silver while Valeriia Shabalina secured bronze.

Poppy said it felt "weird" but "really cool" to be crowned the first British Paralympic champion. "It was so hard,” she told the BBC. "I was just trying my hardest not to die."
