Sky Sports blasted by their own former commentator for Liverpool vs Brentford coverage

Former Sky Sports commentator Bryn Law has laid into the broadcaster for failing to include a former Brentford player in their punditry line-up for Sunday's clash between the Bees and Liverpool.

Presenter Kelly Cates - daughter of Reds legend Kenny Dalglish - was joined in the studio by ex-Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp, with Jamie Carragher assigned co-commentary duties.

Law, who no longer works for Sky Sports, wrote on X: "Sky’s coverage of this Liverpool v Brentford game is basically LFCTV - ex players as co-comm & studio guest, LFC associated presenter. Could they not have at least found an ex-Brentford player as a 2nd studio guest? The pretence of broadcaster’s neutrality a thing of the past?"

The ex-commentator went on to suggest: "They should let 'the little club' do their own red button coverage, then they could go full 'big club' with impunity."

Liverpool-linked Cates, Redknapp and Carragher were in place to witness new Reds manager Arne Slot oversee a 2-0 win against Brentford in his first competitive home match, thanks to goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister talked up his team-mates' performances as Liverpool made it two wins from two at the start of Slot's managerial reign. "We played a fantastic game," he told Sky Sports.

"The team gave everything from the first minute which you could see and it was a good game. In possession and without the ball it was good so we are really pleased."

"We know there is still room for improvement. In the transition sometimes we need to be patient but instead we are quite direct but we are in that transition (towards Slot's style of play). Everyone is working hard to get into Arne's ideas."

Not everyone was smiling ear-to-ear at the final whistle, as Trent Alexander-Arnold was visibly angered after being substituted in the second period. But the right-back's sulk will soon be forgotten as attention turns towards next weekend's grudge match with Manchester United.

Slot is bound for a high-pressure affair at Old Trafford next weekend, and Mac Allister has pleged to fans that the players will take their preparations seriously with a view to clinching all three points.

"We know against Man United it is a derby, it is very important for the club and for us," explained the World Cup winner. "We will prepare during the week and do our best to win that game."
