Sherwood returns in season two trailer for BBC series

David Morrissey will be starring in Sherwood season two but what is there to know about his love life, past and present?

Sherwood is making a comeback to BBC One after two years with Ian St Clair (played by David Morrissey) no longer a detective but heading up a new Violence Intervention Team on behalf of the local council.

And as expected, it isn’t too long before Ian is in the thick of the drama following a deadly attack that leaves a family fearing for their lives.

Actor David Morrisey is best known for starring in series such as The Walking Dead, Daddy Issues, Britannia and The Long Shadow, just to name a few.

But it was long before the 60-year-old made a name for himself that he met his ex-wife and novelist Esther Freud.

Morrissey and Freud met at drama school in 1993 and dated for more than a decade but they got married in 2006.

The famous pair went on to have daughter Anna and two sons Albie and Gene before they divorced four years ago.

Freud is not only the daughter of painter Lucien Freud but the great granddaughter of psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud.

The Sherwood star has since moved with theatrical agent Larah Simpson who he was first spotted with back in December 2023.

Larah is 31-years-old, meaning there is a whopping 29-year age gap between the pair.

Morrissey’s girlfriend is just four years older than his son Albie, although it is unclear if she has met his children with the actor preferring to keep quiet about his new relationship.

Despite this romance, Morrissey has commented to The Times how he and ex-wife Freud remain on good terms: "We’re all very close.

“You know, my ex-wife and I are very close … we all see each other a lot.”

Sherwood season two premieres on Sunday, August 25, at 9pm on BBC One.
