The One Show: Show halts to send a message to Lauren Laverne

Clara Amfo brought Wednesday's episode of The One Show to a poignant pause as she sent out a heartfelt message to their BBC colleague Lauren Laverne, who bravely disclosed her diagnosis of cancer today.

The broadcast began typically, with an overview of the upcoming segments, but it wasn't long before Clara turned serious and addressed the home audience: "We also wanted to send huge, huge love to our dear friend Lauren Laverne, who earlier today shared the news that she's been diagnosed with cancer.

"Thankfully, she is expected to make a full recovery which she herself says, just goes to show the importance of getting checked."

With genuine concern, Clara urged: "So if you are thinking about it, please don't put it off," adding that Lauren is grateful for each message of support received from the public.

Alex Scott chimed in with her own expression of care: "And everyone here at The One Show is sending their love to you, so get well soon, Lauren and we can't wait to have you back," reports Wales Online.

Clara concluded the segment with a heartfelt "Absolutely," before moving the show forward.

Earlier in the day, Lauren Laverne had taken to Instagram from her hospital room to open up about her recent cancer diagnosis. She was optimistic about her prognosis, writing that she is "expected to make a full recovery".

Her emotional Instagram post read: "Right then, some personal news... I recently had a cancer diagnosis. It was (thank God) caught early and unexpectedly during a screening test and I am expected to make a full recovery. I'm in hospital at the moment and wanted to take this moment to say thank you.

"Firstly to the medical teams who have got me this far with incredible skills and kindness. To my family and friends who have been absolutely extraordinary every step of the way - I am so very grateful and love you so much. And of course thank you to my colleagues - including those at [Independent Talent Group], [BBC 6 Music], [BBC The One Show], and [Desert Island Discs] for their support - and for giving me the time off that I need to get better."

She added: "I also want to say that if you're avoiding a test or putting off an appointment to get yourself checked out please, please do it today. Half of us will get cancer at some point, and if you do, finding out asap is everything.

"It's usually my job to bring the good vibes on air but any you have to spare are very much welcome here. Sending loads of love to anyone in a similar boat, or who has made it back to shore."

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
