Bridgerton star's next movie role announced and it's another period drama

Bridgerton star reveals he tried to take prop from the set

Bridgerton star Ruby Stokes has announced her next film role and it looks like she's returning to the period drama genre. The actress is starring in Madfabulous, a film set in 19th century Wales, which will see her co-star with It's A Sin star Callum Howell as flamboyant aristocratic rebel Henry Paget.

Henry arrives from France to live at his family's castle in Anglesey and upon meeting Lily (played by Ruby), the pair form an instant connection. The two become best friends as well as plantonic lovers as Henry's very short life is explored before he dies at the age of 29. The aristocrat becomes a fashion icon, turns his chapel into a theatre and spends all of his family's inheritance.

As well as Ruby and Callum, the period drama boasts an incredible ensemble cast including Rupert Everett, Derry Girls' star Siobhan McSweeney, Kevin Eldon and Tom Rhys Harries.

Also starring are Coronation Street's Ian Puleston-Davies, Steven Speirs, Paul Rhys, Louise Hynes, Louise Brealey, Roger Evans and Guillaume Gallienne.

The cast are filming in Anglesey, Caernarfon and Pwllheli as we speak, with Anglesey being the homeplace of director Celyn Jones. Celyn expressed: "We have an embarrassment of riches in front of and behind the camera on this Madfabulous film.

"It's wonderful to be telling this story, this way, right here and now. Henry was a true original and deserves this reimagining, revisiting his legend with a disco lens and a punk heart."

Ruby appeared as Francesca Bridgerton for the first two series of the hit show on Netflix before making the difficult decision to not return for the third instalment.

She chose to leave halfway during filming of the second season to star in another Netflix production, Lockwood & Co as her character Lucy.

Bridgerton executive producer Chris Van Dusen told TV Line at the time: "I love [the character of] Francesca, but we lost her midway through Season 2.

"After exhausting all other options, she unfortunately had to come out due to reasons beyond our control."

Ruby also told WhattoWatch about her decision to leave as she said: "Leaving was always going to be a difficult choice, but something about Lucy spoke to me.

"It was a chance to explore a very different character and I’ve learned a great deal playing a young adult at the helm of a show. I just felt it was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down!".

Madfabulous is yet to be given a release date.
