Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo was stretchered off just six minutes into the new Premier League season after suffering a horror leg injury against Bournemouth. The City Ground fell silent as staff covered the Brazilian star by using large flags as a makeshift screen before he was stretchered off the pitch.

Danilo started alongside Ibrahim Sangare in Nuno Espirito Santo's midfield but could now be sidelined for several months after seemingly breaking his leg in the early stages.

The 23-year-old contested an aerial ball with Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo but collapsed in agony after the bottom of his leg appeared to snap on impact with the turf.

Watching the match for Sky Sports on Soccer Saturday, Kris Boyd was visibly disturbed by the scenes as he explained what had happened to host Simon Thomas.

"Simon, it's horrible. It's Danilo in the middle of the pitch. He's just jumped for the ball with Semenyo... it's disgusting," Boyd explained.

"He's come back down, and there's no other way to say it; it looks like the bottom of his leg snapped. It's horrible. Absolutely horrible. Horrible."

Thomas added: "Goodness me. You can understand why there is a look of shock on the players' faces at the moment, that looks like an absolute horror injury. It's a disturbing start to the season."

Espirito Santo called on Ryan Yates to replace Danilo in an exciting front six also featuring Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Elanga, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Chris Wood.

Shortly after a seven-minute stoppage, Yates and Wood combined to open the scoring for the hosts and lift the mood in the stands.

After the ball fell into the path of an onrushing Yates on the edge of the area, the 26-year-old lashed a low shot towards goal.

Neto couldn't hold the effort, and the rebound fell nicely for Woods, who made no mistake to slot past the Bournemouth goalkeeper inside the six-yard box.

Ten minutes later, Dango Ouattara thought he had equalised after profiting from Forest's failure to clear a Bournemouth corner, smashing a strike into the roof of the net.
