Adama Traore issued a frosty response to Lisandro Martinez after being called out by the Argentine during his post-match interview on Friday night. The two players were locked in several intense battles during Manchester United's victory over Fulham in the opening game of the Premier League season.

Adama drew first blood by racing past Martinez in the early stages of the match to get himself into a crossing position. The latter went on to take revenge by toppling Traore in spite of the height difference between the pair and was in a bullish mood after the final whistle.

Speaking in his post-match interview on Sky Sports, Martinez said: "I sent him to the gym. I learned from the first one where he killed me, I killed him back. He is difficult to play against and I learned from the first situation."

It seems Adama did not take kindly to Martinez's comments, with the Fulham winger firing back in a six-word statement on Instagram. He tagged Martinez in the post, which read: "Don't worry, we will meet again," alongside a winking emoji.

Adama's frosty response suggests he will be looking to redeem himself up against Martinez when United travel to Craven Cottage in January. Fulham played well for large parts of Friday's game at Old Trafford but were undone by a late winner from United debutant Joshua Zirkzee.

Martinez was pleased with his side's display on the night, saying: "For sure it is really important and the most important thing is the three points. We still have to improve a lot. It is difficult to play for this big club but we live for that and we have to play in a positive way.

"We have to take this pressure and like today we had a good connection with the subs and fans as well. I am proud to play for this club. I didn't play many games as left full-back, but as a player you have to give everything to the team. If the team needs me there I will give everything.

"As a player we are ready for everything, it is part of our job. If you play badly you have to be ready to be criticised. The first two games [last season] I didn't play well and I take that responsibility. I always believe in myself and I know that I am not really tall but I will win."
