Iconic BBC series watched by millions set to return after 25 years off-air

Walking With Dinosaurs trailer

Nature documentary Walking With Dinosaurs is set to make an epic comeback.

The iconic BBC show will return to our screens in 2025 with a fresh six-part series that transports viewers back to the era of the extinct behemoths. First aired in 1999, the revamped programme will "tell the dramatic story of an individual dinosaur" in each episode, as per the BBC.

With a plethora of creatures to select from, Walking With Dinosaurs will spotlight those whose 'remains are currently being unearthed by the world's leading dinosaur hunters." Much like its 90s predecessor, animation and visual effects will be utilised to resurrect these creatures and weave a narrative around their lives based on scientific evidence.

This will feature the Spinosaurus, the largest carnivorous dinosaur ever to roam the earth, brought back to life and wandering the rivers of ancient Morocco.

Other highlights include a young Triceratops squaring off against a ravenous T. rex in North America and a solitary giant Lusotitan risking everything for love in Portugal.

BBC Studios will collaborate with PBS, co-produced with ZDF and France Televisions, to revive the educational show which gained two Baftas and three Emmy awards.

During its heyday, Walking With Dinosaurs became so popular, it became a franchise including other hits such as Walking with Beasts, Walking with Cavemen, Sea Monsters, and Walking with Monsters.

BBC's Head of Commissioning for Specialist Factual, Jack Bootle said: "A whole new generation of viewers is about to fall in love with Walking With Dinosaurs.

"The original series was one of the most exciting factual shows of all time, and this reinvention builds on that amazing legacy. Each episode is underpinned by the very latest science but is also filled with drama – making this a series for both dino lovers and people who just want to be told a great story."
