Olympics 2024 closing ceremony slammed as fans all make London 2012 complaint

Olympics: Hudson-Smith vows to build on 400m silver

The Paris 2024 Olympics went out with a bang - an eerie one at that.

The closing ceremony kicked off with the dimming of the lights before a figure representing a gold metallic alien descended into Stade de France.

This was followed by hundreds of performers dressed in grey ruched outfits performing all types of acrobatics as the choreography attempted to represent a future where life on Earth is reflected upon by visitors from afar.

While it was a grand spectacle, it was fair to say BBC viewers weren't as blown away as they were when London hosted the Olympics back in 2012.

One X user @Gallagherlad95 insisted: "Nothing is ever topping the London 2012 one. Apart from Jessie J ruining a Queen classic it was the absolute best #ClosingCeremony," as @slouisew echoed: "This hasn’t got anything on London 2012 #ClosingCeremony."

A third viewer @Gallagherlad95 agreed, writing: “Nothing is ever topping the London 2012 one. Apart from Jessie J ruining a Queen classic it was the absolute best #ClosingCeremony.”

Another person @VeritasFilia27 pointed out: “As far as raising the Olympics rings go, London 2012 did it best and wasn't as terrifying as whatever this hell is #ClosingCeremony.”

And @vernitosl admitted: "This is just making me feel uncomfortable man, run back London 2012 where everyone just had a party and we ran the Spice Girls around in taxis #ClosingCeremony."

While viewer @marineost affirmed: "Nobody’s ever gonna do better than London 2012 with the Spice Girls reuniting and one direction singing during the closing ceremony #ClosingCeremony."

At the 2012 London Olympics Closing Ceremony, Jessie J and Queen delivered a memorable performance singing their iconic song We Will Rock You.

And if that wasn't impressive enough, 90s pop band Spice Girls reunited to put on a show at Wemberly and they were joined by One Direction delivered a vibrant performance that thrilled fans.

The Paris Olympics opening ceremony also received a harsh review from viewers with many finding the show "offensive" and "woke".

London may have beat Paris with their closing ceremony (according to viewers) but the same couldn't be said for the actual games as Team GB finished seventh and Team France finished fifth.
