'HK shoudn't focus on just one or two elite athletes'

The honorary secretary general of Hong Kong's top sports body, Edgar Yang, on Sunday said the city should nurture all athletes with potential, rather than solely focusing on one or two elite athletes. Speaking to a TV programme, the senior member of the SAR's Sports Federation and Olympic Committee said Hong Kong has huge potential for sports development. "I believe that the system must be very sound, and this sound method starts from popularising and definitely not focusing on just one or two athletes - but rather on the overall system that can bring out potential. We must put in a great effort. Even for those who have not yet fully realised their potential, we must enable them to be inspired," he said. As the Paris Olympics nears its end, Yang said Hong Kong athletes are now world class. SAR athletes have secured two gold medals in fencing and two bronze medals in swimming.
