Emmerdale drops hint about Moira's 'terminal disease' that affects just 0.1% of UK

Emmerdale: Moira pours herself a glass of whiskey

Emmerdale's Moira Dingle, portrayed by Natalie J. Robb, has been at the centre of a heart-wrenching storyline that has left fans deeply concerned.

The character's recent erratic behaviour and mysterious health issues have sparked speculation and worry among the audience. The beloved soap figure has been acting out of character, with incidents such as hurling a glass across the kitchen after a spat with Cain, and harshly telling her son Matty to "man up" in the wake of his prison trauma.

These actions have not gone unnoticed by viewers, who are accustomed to Moira's typically strong but empathetic nature. In a recent episode aired on Thursday (August 8), the plot thickened when Matty found Moira asleep during the day, confused by her own fatigue and loss of appetite.

The scene ended with Moira clutching a whisky bottle, hinting at a possible relapse into alcoholism, a demon she faced three years prior. In a stunning turn of events on last Friday's episode (August 9), Emmerdale's Moira left viewers profoundly concerned with her increasingly erratic behaviour.

Early in the day, a frazzled Moira struggled desperately to find crucial documents before an auction, snapping irritably at Cain as the pressure mounted, then later, in a baffling change of mood, she returned to flirt playfully with Cain, leaving him, and fans, utterly confused, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Devoted Emmerdale watchers are now theorising that this could be a sign that Moira is potentially suffering from early-onset dementia, a truly devastating prospect for the character.

This speculation erupted across social media. One fan posted on an Emmerdale Facebook group, "I think Moira has Early onset dementia."

Another echoed the sentiment, noting Moira's troubling memory issues: "That's what I thought especially when she had to think and remember things she has said and done!"

Other fans too suspected something serious was amiss, with comments such as "Could Moira have early on set dementia or a brain tumour with her forgetting things" and "Think it's something serious like dementia."

These fears hark back to the touching storyline of former villager Ashley Thomas (John Middleton) who suffered from dementia and tragically passed away in 2017, in scenes that captured the hearts of the nation.

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
