Manchester United made a promising start to the summer, earning INEOS rave reviews at the start of their reign over the club's recruitment. But things have gone silent in recent weeks, and supporters are growing increasingly concerned about the prospect of a nightmare end to the transfer window.

The captures of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and Lille centre-back Leny Yoro were viewed as highly positive moves to replace Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial.

But whether United have strengthened the squad that finished eighth in the Premier League and exited the Champions League group stage last season is up for debate.

Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

With Ultra HD included at no extra cost, football fans can enjoy the 2024/25 season with crystal clear picture quality.

The Red Devils have totalled around a £40million net spend, splashing £88.5m on their two arrivals and accumulating just below £50m from four senior sales.

Erik ten Hag reportedly still wants another centre-back, a right-back and a central midfielder before the August 30 deadline, though.

As it stands, there looks to be little chance of the Dutchman getting what he wants unless there is an almighty change of tide on the horizon.

Express Sport looks at the nightmare end to the transfer window that United could be in for, which would likely direct some animosity towards INEOS.

Two crucial exits collapse

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Scott McTominay represented the keys for United to continue their summer spending, but both appear to be edging towards a stay.

West Ham United have pursued Wan-Bissaka, but the right-back's demands over a pay-off from United one year before his contract expires have proven to be a sticking point.

Meanwhile, Fulham have seen two bids for McTominay rejected, the latest worth £20m, reportedly £5m below his valuation.

Reports now claim that the Cottagers are unlikely to return to the negotiation table, leaving his status in limbo.

Victor Lindelof, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Jadon Sancho are among the other players also in the shop window. However, no concrete interest has emerged for any of them.

If United fail to raise further funds through player sales, Yoro's exciting arrival in mid-July could prove to be the last this summer.

The Red Devils are paying the price for a decade of financial mismanagement by the previous regime, making PSR and FFP limitations rife.

Wan-Bissaka and McTominay's sales were planned to pave the way for Bayern Munich's Noussair Mazraoui and Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte.

The need for another centre-back has also been intensified by pre-season injuries to Yoro, Harry Maguire and Lindelof, leaving Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans as United's only fit options.

But no further sales could prevent any more incomings and leave Ten Hag's squad thinner than last season - a considerable concern, given the 66 different cases of injury or illness.
