Michael Mosley's final show, Wonders of the Human Body, will air on Channel 5 in the coming weeks. The three-part series will see the late TV doctor explore how the human body works and put his own to the test.

The first episode will be shown on Thursday, August 22, at 8pm. In it, Michael visits a tremors sufferer who is about to undergo pioneering brain surgery. He also meets a cancer patient who discovers his experimental treatment has been a success and explores the health benefits and risks of cold water swimming.

Michael will also test scientific breakthroughs including a new scan that promises to predict a heart attack.

Michael's wife of 37 years, Dr Clare Bailey, also features in the programme. In a heartfelt tribute, she says: "One of Michael’s biggest passions has always been to reveal the extraordinary secrets of how our bodies work, to help us understand and look after them.

Michael tragically died in June aged 67 after going missing on the Greek island of Symi.

The TV presenter's cause of death was ruled as natural causes after his remains were found in a rocky area on the island.

The father-of-four was reported missing on June 5 after he set off for a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach. His body was found four days later following an extensive search.

Speaking after his death, Dr Bailey said her husband would have been "gobsmacked" at the outpouring of affection for him.

She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme last month: "She told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: "He would have been gobsmacked. He didn't seek the limelight. He was quite shy, but loved what he did, and was very good at it."

Michael is credited with popularising the 5:2 diet, a form of intermittent fasting, through his book The Fast Diet, and he often pushed his body to extreme lengths during his research into health and wellbeing.

He first trained as a doctor in London before moving into the world of media, becoming a presenter, documentary maker, author and columnist.

During his career he presented a host of science programmes and films including the BBC series Trust Me, I'm A Doctor, which looked at healthcare in Britain, and hosted BBC Radio 4 podcast Just One Thing.

He was also a regular contributor on TV shows such as This Morning, Morning Live and The One Show.

The new three-part programme Michael Mosley: Wonders of the Human Body will air on Channel 5 on Thursday 22nd August at 8pm.
