Meghan and Harry are 'an act' who are 'thriving off publicity' of family feud, expert says

Simon Heffer calls Harry and Meghan 'a brand' and 'an act'

Prince Harry has been "poisoned" since marrying Meghan Markle and the couple are "an act", according to scathing comments made by historian Simon Heffer. The 64-year-old commentator appeared on GB News where he hit out at the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as working members of the Royal Family in 2020 and moved to the United States, away from the UK media. The Prince was later criticised as he released a tell-all memoir, Spare.

The couple have since gone on to give exclusive interviews to various outlets, including in Harry's latest documentary Tabloids on Trial on ITV. They aren't shy about discussing the relationships that they held with other royal family members, including Prince William and King Charles.

Speaking to GB News, Mr Heffer analysed their behaviour, saying: "Harry appears to have bad relations with his brother and sister-in-law, given that his sister-in-law is probably the closest that we've got to a saint in the Royal Family at the moment, that's not very good PR on his part.

"His brother had a very difficult time, his wife has been ill and his father has been ill. The Prince of Wales has held the line pretty well.

"I think people are aware that Harry has not been supportive, it's one thing for him to go away and keep quiet, which is what the Duke of Windsor did. It's another thing to go away and cause ructions, to give interviews, to make public appearances, to get into the press a lot.

The historian hit out at the couple, adding: "I mean, he and his wife clearly live off publicity. They are a brand. They are an act. And like all brands and all acts, they need the oxygen of publicity.

"That's what he's seeking now. That will always make things difficult for the rest of the Royal Family if that is his attitude to life, and it does appear to be."

He explained: "I understand he's got to earn a living, But nobody forced him into this. He didn't have to leave the Royal Family. It was quite clear, that his father in particular, wanted him to stay. It was quite clear that there was a serious job for him to do.

Simon shared that he thought Harry had been "poisoned" by marriage as he continued: " "Since he got married six years ago, something has happened. I'm not party to his private thoughts.

"I don't know anything about the internal workings of his marriage, but something has happened that has poisoned him, it seems, against his family and against the idea of royalty now."

When Harry and Meghan stepped down, they lost many benefits of royal life - including that of automatic police security in the United Kingdom. But an unveiled letter showed that this was concerning to the late Queen.

The letter - which was penned by the late monarch's private secretary Sir Edward Young - read: "You will understand well that ensuring that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain safe is of paramount importance to Her Majesty and her family."

Speaking of Harry's good character, it continued: "Given the Duke's public profile by virtue of being born into the Royal Family, his military service, the Duchess's own independent profile, and the well-documented history of targeting of the Sussex family by extremists, it is imperative that the family continues to be provided with effective security."
