Trisha Goddard discusses living with breast cancer on GMB

TV legend Trisha Goddard bravely opened up about her ongoing battle with terminal cancer and the reasons behind her decision to keep her diagnosis under wraps for an extended period.

The veteran presenter, who first faced breast cancer in 2008, has sadly disclosed that the illness has made a comeback, manifesting in her right hip and secondary breast cancer, which although there is treatment for, is no cure.

During her appearance on Good Morning Britain this Thursday, the 66-year-old gave hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls an intimate insight into her current health situation.

In response to why she chose to keep her condition private, Trisha said: "I was grappling with how to deal with it myself. Plus, I just wanted to work and be me. With CNN and my colleagues there, they didn't know that I had no hair, that I had no feeling in my legs."

Trisha confirmed that these symptoms were side effects of her treatment, revealing that she underwent chemotherapy every week for four and a half months, reports the Mirror.

Discussing her present state, the television icon admitted she's adapting to a 'new normal', which now includes regular treatments every three weeks.

She also shared that her treatment commenced the morning after her wedding, leading her to postpone her honeymoon for two years.

Despite her challenges, Trisha has expressed a desire not to become the "poster girl" for cancer.

Speaking to the GMB hosts, Trisha added: "It's not who I am, it's what I'm living with. Coming back to people with chronic illnesses, I think we do them a disservice when we use words like 'brave', 'champion' and 'hero' because they just want to grasp the life they have."

As the interview was wrapping up, Kate was excited to announce that Trisha will soon grace the GMB studio as a stand-in presenter.

On next Tuesday and Wednesday, viewers can tune in to see Trisha take over as Susanna Reid enjoys her well-deserved summer holiday.

Trisha admitted: "I'm not normally nervous, I have to say, but that bit, I'm not nervous about but this bit (being interviewed), I've been shaking like a chihuahua."

In a surprised response, Kate asked if her nerves were due to being interviewed by herself and Ed, but Trisha quickly dismissed the idea.

Ed chimed in, noting: "Trisha is used to doing the interviewing, she's not so used to being on the other side, is that right? ".

With a hint of playful reservation, Trisha responded: "Maybe! But also it's about talking about really personal stuff and this is my life, I'm in the middle of it."
