The Chase: Darragh Ennis issues stern warning to player

ITV star Darragh Ennis bluntly warned a contestant that they should have taken a “lower off” after The Chase was spun into chaos when he eliminated the first two contestants leaving viewers fuming. The 43-year-old is believed to have an IQ over 130 and is incredibly tough to beat.

Helen, a schoolteacher, was the final person to face him during the nail-biting episode on Tuesday. However, she did not appear nervous despite both Nina and Robert being sent home in the second round.

During the quick-fire questions with host Bradley Walsh, she earned £5,000 despite him saying they were an “extremely hard set of questions”. Darragh offered her to keep what she had won or a higher fee of £95,000 and a lower amount of £1,000.

Jack was the only other player who managed to get through to the final chase so they offered her some kind words of advice. He said: “You have done great whatever you feel comfortable with.”

She replied: "£95,000 is really generous but I think I will go for the £5,000.” Darragh said, “I think you would be much better off if you took the lower offer if you want to get back.”

Helen just about managed to get back to her teammate and play in the final chase after she struggled with a number of questions but managed to guess correctly.

However, fans were left unimpressed with the lack of finalists. Taking to X, one user said: “I am in despair, I really am.”

“Surely there has to be a final chase how are they all going out?!!!,” said a second person. A third penned: “Jack may be on his own in the final #thechase.”

Helen and Jack went head-to-head with Darragh and answered 16 questions correctly, which host Bradley applauded.

Typically, contestants of three or more get around 18 or more questions which tests the chaser’s ability.

Bradley said: “16, well that’s not bad it’s been a winning score many times and I thought it was a tricky set.”

However, it was sadly not enough despite pushing Darragh back on a science question – which came as a shock as he is a neuroscientist.

He said: “Bit annoyed at the one question I got wrong was a science question, you know the day job. But you were a good team.

“I eliminated most of your chances with the other two players when they went down. Even if they were here and didn’t answer that’s 18. If they answered at least one to two questions each it goes up to 20 and that’s when I start to make mistakes as I have to go much quicker. I had lots of time there and you did not set a high enough target.”

The Chase is available to watch on ITV1 and ITVX from 5pm during the week.
