Coronation Street: Paul makes promise to Summer as she leaves

It looks like it's the end of the road for Summer Spellman and her beau Felix, as the pair called time on the brief romance.

Summer, who is played by actress Harriet Bibby, met Felix (Robin Morrissey) while in the US. However, when she brought him home for her summer break from university, he didn't make a good impression on Paul Foreman (Peter Ash), who thought he displayed a rather snobbish demeanour.

Despite this, the pair battled through to prove their love was the real deal and agreed to a long-distance relationship when he returned to America. But during Monday's episode viewers saw Felix deliver a devastating blow to Summer.

Summer was left in utter shock when he received a text message from Felix, just as she was coming home after a night out with Asha Alahan (Tanisha Gorey). A heartbroken Summer told guardian Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Paul that Felix felt the distance was too much for their relationship to bear.

Once Summer's breakup scene aired, fans shared their thoughts online. One viewer said: "Summer, just go back to America and spare us your stupid break-up-by-text-total garbage."

Another also added: "Summer came home upset that Felix had dumped her. Did anybody else forget they were still together at that point? lol."

After hearing the news, Paul joked he was "sorry, not sorry" about the breakup, Meanwhile, Summer admitted he had more pressing concerns, given his worsening motor-neurone disease.

However, unbeknownst to Summer, at that moment, Paul has been contemplating ending his life. Paul made the devasting decision about his future during Friday's heartbreaking special episode focused on his storyline.

But later, Paul realised that moments with his family and friends were precious and he changed his mind. He told his husband Billy that he now "wants to stay around for family and friends."

He said to Billy in an emotional speech: "I want to go on living for as long as I can, however I can. I’m going to let nature take its course."

Coronation Street continues on Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
