Vera enthusiasts were overjoyed as the beloved ITV series made a comeback on Monday night, with another episode set to air tonight. The featured classic hails from the eleventh series, bringing viewers the much-missed chemistry between Brenda Blethyn and her ex-colleague Kenny Doughty in his role as Aiden Healy.

Tonight's episode, the sixth instalment of series 11, promises intrigue: "DCI Stanhope is called out to the banks of the River Tyne, where the body of a young woman has been washed up.

"The plot thickens as Vera delves into the life of the victim, who seemed to be a well-regarded manager at a local green energy firm, as well as a devoted friend, mother, and spouse. Yet, beneath the surface lies a tangled web of deceit, betrayal, and broken promises that Vera must untangle to catch the murderer."

Despite Kenny's poignant departure earlier this year, fans were ecstatic to see DS Healy grace their screens once more, prompting an outpouring of excitement on social media.

A dedicated fan took to a Facebook group, remarking: "Repeats, not that I am complaining I like to rewatch any episode." reports Chronicle Live.

Another fan expressed joy at Aiden's return: "Great to see Aiden back," while a third concurred: "Yes, love him."

One more viewer exclaimed: "Wahoo, something good to watch."

And yet another fan stated their preference: "I would rather watch Vera than any sport."

Kenny last appeared in Vera during the 2023 Christmas special, but he was mentioned when the series resumed this year, with Joe Ashworth (portrayed by David Leon) returning as DCI Stanhope's trusty sidekick.

In the spring of 2023, Kenny announced his departure from the series, a choice he described as a "difficult decision".

On Instagram, he lavished thanks and praise: "I want to thank everyone who's made this amazing time so joyous, ITV, Silverprint, all the brilliant cast and crew BUT of course my buddy and inspiration Brenda Blethyn.

"The perfect leading star who I owe so much to. I feel lucky to have you as a friend, you make me howl with laughter and have been a rock for me over the years. I can't thank you enough. Precious times."

Kenny ended his touching Instagram post by acknowledging the show's loyal fans: "And finally the Vera fans: without you and your support I would never have made so many films. You really are the best fans in the world. Thank you so much for your loyalty and love for the show."

Since stepping away from the spotlight following his exit, Kenny has only recently resurfaced in the public eye with a career update.

He excitedly revealed to his fans that he's embarked on a new adventure, securing a part in a series titled The Au Pair alongside Death in Paradise favourite Sally Bretton.
