BBC presenter JJ Chalmers suffered a live blunder as he accidentally called Team GB a different country. The broadcaster was speaking in the studio about the Women's Hockey fixtures when he said "England versus Spain."

The Scot is one of the many presenters leading the BBC coverage for the Paris Olympic Games. During one break from the live action, JJ spoke to viewers about the afternoon action.

He said: "A little reminder that over on iPlayer we've got the hockey coming on live. That's England versus Spain in the Women's tournament as they get their tournament underway."

The Invictus Games medallist didn't appear to notice his mistake and continued as normal during the broadcast. However, a number of BBC viewers noticed the blunder.

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

One person reacted on X: " I can’t be the only one that just heard @JJChalmersRM introduce the hockey as ENGLAND v Spain on @BBCOne. So much for Team GB #OlympicGames."

A second also wrote: "@JJChalmersRM What’s this England v Spain nonsense all about? What happened to team GB?"

A third person also typed: "#BBCOlympics jj chalmers usual a Scotsman saying England v Spain at hockey. I thought we were team GB more English exceptionalism."

A fourth person also said: "Hearing one of the BBC presenters introducing the hockey as ‘England v Spain’ it’s GREAT BRITAIN not just ENGLAND #Olympic2024."

A fifth also said: "Ummm did I just hear that right @BBCSport @JJChalmersRM Spain Vs England in the Hockey."

The BBC is no longer the primary broadcaster of the Olympics (Image: BBC) window.topArticlesScript="https://cdn.images.express.co.uk/js/dist/article-top-articles20240723.min.js"

In similar news, fans who tuned into the first day of the Paris 2024 Olympics have already been left "fed up" over the BBC coverage. During the Women's Diving, viewers complained that the commentators were doing "too much talking."

The BBC is no longer the Games' primary broadcaster and is only showing live coverage on two channels. The BBC is also running an Olympics Extra channel on iPlayer, however they won't be showing all sports and medal ceremonies.

There is further coverage on Discovery+, as well as Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2. Discovery+ states it will ‘stream every medal and every moment’ and fans can pay £3.99 for an Olympic Games package.
