Carol Kirkwood's 'perfect wedding day' nearly ruined as she shares horror story

The One Show: Carol Kirkwood shares her love for Venice

Carol Kirkwood gave a rare insight into her love life as she revealed how her "perfect wedding day" was almost ruined.

The 62-year-old tied the knot for the second time with serving police officer Steve Randal in December last year. The couple met seven years ago and their relationship has been strong ever since.

Carol appeared on Tuesday’s episode of The BBC show alongside Tom Allen and presenters Alex Jones and Anita Rani. The weather presenter came on the show to speak about her fourth novel, titled Once Upon a Time in Venice and also took the opportunity to open up about her love life.

Anita started off by saying: “You’ve given us a reason to put down our phones. You have a new novel set in Venice with three women in one of the world's most romantic places.”

Carol said: “First of all I love Venice because it has everything. It’s so romantic, it’s got history, art, culture and little alleyways as well and when you walk down you can get lost in it and there are no street lights so it’s great for hiding little secrets.”

Turning the conversation to Carol’s love life, Alex said: “Your real life Carol has been quite romantic since we last met. You got married in December, you say the weather wasn't on your side, which is terrible when you’re booking a wedding but you looked super happy and super beautiful.”

She asked: “So how is it?” Carol revealed: “It’s going fabulously and I couldn’t be happier.

“It was the perfect day, it was a small intimate wedding, it was beautiful and very romantic.”

Sharing details on how her special day was almost ruined, she revealed: “There was a storm, can you believe it - Storm Gerrit. We booked it, obviously it was a bit in advance and we didn’t know there was going to be a storm.

She continued: “I was watching it in the lead up to the wedding and I was thinking ‘no’ but on the actual day we didn’t even notice.”

Alex added: “They say rain on the ring is good luck apparently.” Carol looked shocked as she said: “Oh is it, I’ll take that.”

Tom jumped in: “I’ve never heard that before.” Everyone burst out laughing as Alex joked: “Well I must have made it up.”

Looking at Carol, Tom said: “Well never heard that before but it’ll be a lovely title for your next book.”
